SUMMARY:MARCH EVENING COLLEGE: BUILDING YOUR PORTFOLIO WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTION:For anyone who may someday want to exhibit some of their prints\, this is a must-have experience training program. Valuable tips for approaching a gallery or exhibition. Will clarify as to what you are doing as a photographer. \n\n\n\nHow often have you been asked for an artist’s bio or a portfolio (or both)? Was doing it a form of hell on earth\, or an easy cruise down the Danube? Come to Eric’s talk and learn about the process\, contents\, and organization of your portfolio/ bio.  \n\n\n\n If you want to impress a gallerist or a curator\, there are some do’s and don’ts. The bare facts of your accomplishments are not enough and writing too much is also a turn-off … gallerists just do not have the time.  \n\n\n\nI am going to walk you through my actual portfolio and then YOU are going to vote thumbs up or down — and will have to explain your reasons. \n\n\n\nPRESENTER: ERIC HATCH \n\n\n\nWORKSHOP INSTRUCTIONS: There are two exercises. First\, you are to shorten the original portfolio by two images. Which two do you remove\, and why? Second\, you are to replace the empty spaces with two new photos from the set below. Allow 20 minutes to remove and replace. Discussion: Why did you choose these particular images?  \n\n\n\nThen: Consider what your choices say about you as a photographer? Do they increase or diminish the unity of the portfolio? Will they catch the eye of a gallery owner or a curator? \n\n\n\nIf time permits\, vote on the best portfolio. Vote by scoring each portfolio with one to five points. Again if time permits\, justify your choices. Criteria are coherence\, impact\, storytelling\, color palette. \n\n\n\nBIO:  Eric Hatch has been a writer\, teacher\, business consultant\, and for the past 22 years a fine art photographer. hatchphotoartistry@gmail.com   \n\n\n\nMAJOR EXHIBITS:  \n\n\n\nGLACIERS IN RETREAT     3 SHOWINGS\, ONE AT HOOD MUSEUM\, DARTMOTH COLLEGE. \n\n\n\nFACES OF ADDICTION     5 SHOWINGS INCLUDING IN OHIO STATE OFFICE BUILDING\, ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE CAPITOL BUILDING’. 6  PIECES ARE ON PERMANENT DISPLAY AT HOOD MUSEUM. \n\n\n\nHARD TIMES FOR THESE TIMES   ARCHITECTURE EXPRESING THE MOOD OF THE American POST INDUSTRIAL EXISTENCE. \n\n\n\nTHIS SPRING:  GENEVA SWITZERLAND AT INVITATION BY FORMER AMBASSADOR TO NORWAY.  NO TITLED YET\, BUT A PORTRAIT OF A PHOTOGRAPHER AT AGE 79 \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n“I stand on the brink. My work explores the fragility of the world welive in and is the result of what I have seen\, felt\, and experienced. Igravitate to wild outdoor places where the earth is actively changing. Iintuitively find patterns and relationships in the rocks\, glaciers\, valleysand the life that clings to them. I see patterns everywhere andphotograph them. Having defective eyesight since birth\, I’m unable tosee much detail\, and that in turn attracts me to dynamic compositions.” \n\n\n\nEVENING COLLEGE CLASSES ARE ONLINE \n\n\n\nFor our members current on dues\, guests’ new members. \n\n\n\nMARCH 11TH 6:30 – 7:45 PM EST \n\n\n\nCost: TONIGHT’S CLASS IS OFFERED WITHOUT A FEE.
