2019 BLINK Cincinnati Photo Walk

Details

Let’s get together and photograph BLINK Cincinnati, its 3rd year and even better than ever! BLINK is a light and art event that features large-scale architectural projection mapping, light-based sculptures and installations, brand-new murals and interactive art. From October 10-13, BLINK is bringing light and life to an area stretching from Findlay Market to Covington. For those keeping count, that’s 30 city blocks, 2 states and one bridge over the Ohio River. That space will be filled with 39 projection mapping displays, 15 new murals, 45 light-based installations and more than 80 performances from local and national bands.

BLINK®, with generous support from Greater Cincinnati Foundation, will transform the Roebling Bridge into a monumental piece of art, a rare opportunity to get new shots of the bridge! (Blink notes “will focus on the most grand and predominant features of the bridge, including the anchorage, gateway towers, arches and spires. It is our goal to illuminate the river in a magic glimmer of color and reflection”).

Covington will be one of BLINK’s most densely packed zones for art, light, music and food. More than 20 installations will be featured from the Roebling Bridge to Seventh and Madison not to mention dozens of activities and street performers.

Projection mapping is the art of turning unusual or irregularly shaped objects – such as buildings – into a video projection surface. Using specialized software, the artist is able to make the space come alive with animations, optical illusions and notions of movement. All projection mapping shows are between 3-10 mins in length and are on a continuous loop so you can arrive at any time. Each night will feature the same shows and art installations. The bands and live entertainment also vary each night. And it’s easy to photograph using a tripod, however, many of the projections have moving patterns and colors, so a camera capable of video recording will be useful!

Are tickets needed?
No tickets are needed. BLINK is completely free and open to the public!

What are the dates of the event?
BLINK will be held October 10-13, 2019. We could meet at a specific location, however, I feel that once we are out on the street we are likely to split up and work the photography at each individual’s pace (or some may stay in small groups). I attended in 2017 and truly enjoyed myself. There were lots of people attending and I felt secure with my gear.

BLINK Map – you can find a detailed map of the blocks supporting BLINK and road closures at this link https://www.cincinnati.com/story/entertainment/2019/09/24/blink-cincinnati-2019-map/2432000001/

Dinner? There was no interest in dinner so canceling this part of the event.

Carpooling?
Indicate in the Comments section if you are interested in carpooling since parking may be a challenge those nights, or if you are interested in hanging together for security purposes (although I felt safe given the large crowds at a prior event).
