HERITAGE VILLAGE MUSEUM as a setting for your photographs. Historic Southwest Ohio is a non-profit educational institution promoting an appreciation of the culture of 19th-century Southwest Ohio by operating museums according to the highest professional standards for the preservation of our historic structures.
Visit the Village for free and discover the history of Ohio during the 1800s. Several buildings will be open and interpreters in historical clothing will do demonstrations. Heritage Village Museum (13 buildings) is a living history museum depicting life in Southwestern Ohio through-out the 19th Century. Homes, out-buildings and equipment on the museum grounds were moved here from other locations in the region to be preserved and aid in telling the story of our recent past. Interpreters at the museum provide the facts and stories that bring the Village to life with nostalgic glances of days gone by.

CRITIQUE: Black & White, Dramatic Landscape Photography
First some may ask what is Dramatic Landscape Photography? ” Of or relating to drama. Like a drama in suddenness, emotional impact, etc. Striking; effective. Acting or performed in a flamboyant way.”

Ross Hoddinott is among the UK’s best-known landscape and natural history photographers. He is a multi-award-winning photographer and the author of several bestselling photography titles, including The Landscape Photography Workshop (with Mark Bauer). Based in Cornwall.
Rich’s Tip: Prior to converting your colorful masterpiece to a black and white image attempt to improve your final image by trial and error. First bump up both the contrast and saturation of your color image. Second, you may want to see the varying conversion results by adding some color filters. For instance, if your image has the element of sky, try adding varying degrees of red to increase the drama.
PRESENTATION: Creating Dynamic Black and White Landscape Images
The presentation will focus on creating dynamitic black and white landscape images. Tom will discuss his thinking of shooting landscapes, how shooting in black and white differs from shooting in color. Tom will also discuss the process of converting our RAW files to black and white using lightroom and Photoshop.

This year the Ohio (Balloon) Challenge is coming to Middletown. At Dusk: Balloon Glow – Capture over 20 balloons lighting up the night sky.
Followed by Ohio Challenge Fireworks OVCC’ers lets go Saturday evening. Saturday, July 17th Festival is open 6pm to 10:30 Festival is also on July 16th.

Governor DeWine’s announcement that Ohio’s health restrictions will end on June 2nd has given the CenterPoint Energy Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger the green light to conduct a “normal” show in 2021 complete with static display aircraft, specialty seating and a star-studded line-up of top aerobatic performers.
We are excited to fully reopen and bring our fans a traditional air show experience. Unfortunately, this means we will not be producing the drive-in show we announced in March. We are fully refunding your drive-in show ticket purchase and a credit will automatically be applied to your account. Please allow 20 business days to receive your refund.
We are back with a full show program including the popular Blue Sky Chalets, Pavilion umbrella table seating areas, PHOTO TOUR/PIT, Kids’ Hangar, static display aircraft and more.

Bring out your tripods and let’s shoot fireworks after an upcoming Reds-Braves Game. The fireworks will start approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the game. Game time is 7:10 pm so you might want to be setup and in position by no later than 2.5 hours after the start of the game or 9:45 pm. There are park benches in General James Taylor Park, so if you get there earlier say 9 pm you might snag a place to sit else bring a folding chair.

CRITIQUE: City Photo Walk Detail Images. Recently OVCC has hosted the Mt. Adams and Over-the-Rhine city photo walks. Upload up to 3 images of details you observed and photographed during these photo walks. If you did not participate in either photo walk head out between now and the critique deadline of June 18th to photograph city details, or use images from another prior city photo walk. City details are not shots of entire buildings but rather interesting doors, metal works, wood and stone filigrees, smaller shapes and patterns, small works of art, and perhaps an interesting shot of an individual going about his or her day in the city. Many times our eyes take in the large details, now show us the details you captured.
PRESENTATION: High Dynamic Range Presentation Fred Haaser will provide a post-critique presentation on the value of High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography. He will discuss when is it appropriate to consider taking HDR photos, how is it accomplished in your camera, and then will compare and contrast four different post-processing programs you can used to create amazing HDR photos. Compared will be Lightroom, Photoshop, Photomatix, and Aurora HDR.

BIO: Fred Haaser Fred started out in Photography as a young teenager using a Polaroid Swinger Model 20, moved to a full 35 mm film kit in 1980, and then digital in 2000. Today he is a serious amateur photographer using pro equipment traveling on-location in search of the best images possible.
Fred retired in 2016 after a 36-year career as an engineering manager developing 3 gas turbines for GE Aviation in Cincinnati. He is now Co-Organizer of the Ohio Valley Camera Club (OVCC), and working to capture images at all 63 US National Parks having completed 53 currently, and with 5 more planned for 2021.
