Join other OVCC members on August 19th at Oeder’s Lake in Morrow, Ohio for the Little Miami Area Cardboard Boat Regatta (see address below). There will be vendors, booths, food trucks, and of course those magnificent men and women in their cardboard creations floating (?) out on the lake. As this is a public event it is open to all OVCC members including trial members!
Racing will begin at 11:30 ambut I recommend arriving at least by 11 am along with your folding chair to find that perfect spot to photograph the mayhem. Bring sunscreen and a large hat. The event is scheduled to wrap up by 2:30 pm.
There is no fee to attend, however, there is a fee to enter a boat if you care to be a contestant.
Long lenses recommended. Bring a wide angle to capture the crowd and festivities, but I’d recommend 200-500 mm to capture closeups of the boats and crews out on the water.
Awards will be given for Most Creative, Most Spectacular Sinking, and “The Titanic.” Each year they run a Hero’s Race open only to veterans, police, fire and emergency personnel. Each year’s winner claims the trophy and bragging rights and needs to come back the following year to defend their title. For the finale there is a Crash and Sink Derby, where anything that is still floating is put back into the water for a winner-take-all/last-one-to-sink challenge.

Also, remove many people from an image, that Photoshop Remove tool will not. You can learn how to remove unwanted objects or people from a crowded scene using Scripts to Stack your images in Photoshop. Although it may require some planning and several photos, the technique produces excellent results. Image Stack Mode is particularly beneficial for cleaning up crowded areas or removing unwanted objects moving through a scene. The algorithm analyzes all the photos and takes a statistical average, keeping identical areas and removing everything that changes between shots, such as cars and people. Using a tripod or holding your camera as steadily as possible is essential to get the best results. Wait at least 20 seconds between each shot to allow people and cars to move, and aim for 8 to 20 photos.

Landscape photography is my passion! It helps me to appreciate the beauty nature brings into my life a uniqueness in the world and the beauty that it brings into my life.
Light is both the photographer’s palette and brush. Harnessing available light is a skill learned through the study of technical theory and then applying it in the field. My goal as a photographer is to search out the images that interest me artistically, and upon finding the essence of a particular place. The use of composition and light enhance my images. Both the Old and New World have much to offer me as a photographer. From sunrise in Tuscany to sunset on Mackinac Island, there is much beauty in the world. All one has to do is look.
People always move too fast past those special places and capturing images with my camera has allowed me to stop and say I need to enjoy this light this place, I will catch up with you later. By teaching, I get to interact with others who want to take a moment and enjoy those special places as the light changes.
There will be a line so arrive prior to Village Museum Opening at 10 am.. The Park itself is open daily from dawn to dusk.
Visit the Village for free and discover the history of Ohio during the 1800s. Several buildings will be open and interpreters in historical clothing will do demonstrations. Heritage Village Museum (13 buildings) is a living history museum depicting life in Southwestern Ohio through-out the 19th Century. Homes, out-buildings and equipment on the museum grounds were moved here from other locations in the region to be preserved and aid in telling the story of our recent past. Interpreters at the museum provide the facts and stories that bring the Village to life with nostalgic glances of days gone by.
During special events at the Village interpreters demonstrate some of the historic tasks and crafts of the 19th century such as spinning, weaving, candle-dipping, soap making, hearth cooking, carpentry work, herb lore, gardening, printing, trade and bartering, and communication. While you are here explore all the buildings, talk with the interpreters, try your hand at activities you see happening. You are a very important part of this Village. Linger awhile and enjoy your stay. That is why we have benches, for you to sit and soak up the quiet days of yesteryear. Enjoy your visits to the Village, learn something old, and come back soon.
The moment the conductor fires up the steam locomotive the noise is both exhilarating and deafening. Come grab capture images of a steam locomotive from a by-gone era just up the road in downtown Lebanon.
The weekends of August 5th and August 12th The Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad (LM&M Railroad)will be powered by a steam locomotive. The public and riders are welcome to come in close for taking pictures. Departures from the Lebanon Station, 198 S. Broadway, Lebanon will be: August 5th, 6th, 12th, and 13th at 10 am, Noon, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. I plan to be there this coming Sunday for the 10 am departure.

What: Old Time Circus Acts under the Big Tent, performers in 1920s costumes, performed at night. Photograph magicians, jugglers, acrobats, comedy, and other acts. Since this is not really a meetup this event is open to all members, guests, etc.
Where: at the Ohio Renaissance Festival grounds, in Harveysburg (see address below); Note: it can take about 30+ minutes to reach the grounds from Cincinnati.
When: Circus show runs 7-10 pm, but get there 30 minutes early for parking, passing thru the entrance, and walking to the tent. Get a couple of cold drinks, popcorn, or cotton candy on your way into the tent at the concession stand. If it is warm a hand fan may be something for you.
Tickets: you can order your own tickets at the web-site below (copy & paste into your browser). I would recommend front row seating ($37+fee) to get the best camera shots, however, for a few bucks less you can get tickets in Premium in the second row ($30+fee). General Admission seating is the least expensive ($27+fee) but you may find the visibility less appealing. Tix for children are $14+fee.

The Hamilton Antique Car Parade hosted by the Butler County Antique and Classic Car Club welcomes the return of the annual parade each summer. Showcasing nearly 300 classic cars, the Antique Car Parade in Hamilton, Ohio has cars for every enthusiast. Each year, the parade is lead by a different classic and antique automobile. In previous years, the parade leader has been a 1954 Packard Caribbean Convertible. Only 400 Caribbean Convertibles were made in 1954 and there are only an estimated 24 Caribbeans remaining today. Other past lead cars have included a 1929 Chevrolet International Model AC, a 1934 Ford Flathead V8 Coupe, and a fleet of other vintage and classic automobiles. The Annual Antique Car Parade begins at the Butler County Courthouse in Hamilton, travels to Fairfield Crossing, and returns to the Butler County Courthouse. The car parade celebrates at the courthouse with live music and antique and classic car awards. RESCHEDULED Reds Friday Night Fireworks and Drone Show
OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS AND GUESTS. Bring out your tripods and let’s shoot fireworks after an upcoming Reds-Diamondbacks Friday night baseball game. The fireworks will start approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the game. Game time is 7:10 pm. With the new pitch clock games are lasting 2.5 hours now, so you might want to be setup and in position by no later than 9:00 pm in the event of a quick game, and to help garner a parking spot in the General James Taylor parking lot. If filled, go around to Central Ave and park nearby and walk over the flood wall. There are park benches in General James Taylor Park, so if you get there earlier you might snag a place to sit else bring a folding chair and relax.
If you are looking to expand your firework shooting technique try your hand at this technique – Spiky Fireworks (but it takes practice and with luck you’ll get 4-5 shots).
PRE-FIRE WORKS REVIEW: I will have a one page handout with key tips for shooting fireworks (regular & spiky), available at the event. We can review those camera settings before the fireworks begin.

PRESENTATION: “Antarctica: Pristine Beauty” Traveling to Antarctica is an adventure in itself given its remoteness and potential for severe weather. You have to cross the Drake Passage, which is known as either the Drake Mistake or the Drake Lake, depending on wave and wind conditions during your passage, and how prone to sea sickness you may be. Once in Antarctica be prepared to see not only pristine landscapes and iceburgs but also an unexpected abundance of many wild animals such as seals, orcas, humpbacks, penguins, albatrosses, and more.

BIO: Fred started out in Photography as a young teenager using a Polaroid Swinger Model 20, moved to full 35 mm film kit in 1980, and then digital in 2000. Today he is a serious amateur photographer using Nikon pro mirrorless equipment traveling on- location in search of the best images possible.
Fred retired in 2016 after a 36-year career as an engineering manager developing 3 gas turbines for GE Aviation in Cincinnati. He is now Co- Organizer of the Ohio Valley Camera Club (OVCC) and working to capture images from all 63 US National Parks having completed 62 currently, and the last one (Denali) being planned for August, 2023.
