The workshop is intended for people with no experience using layers, or Lightroom and Photoshop users who aren’t as comfortable with layers as they would like to be. This is an intensive class that will provide you with an outline and video that you’ll be able to reference over and over again until you become an expert with Photoshop layers.

Regardless of your experience with Lightroom or Photoshop, we’re sure you’ll leave with some great tips that will improve your editing. Here’s what’s covered in the workshop:
– What is a Photoshop Layer?
– Why Use Layers?
– The Layer Panel
– The Background Layer
– Creating New Layers
– Moving Layers
– Opacity & Transparency
– Layer Visibility
– Type Layers
– Layer Masks
– Smart Objects

July Meeting: Tina Karle: Critique Waterfall Images / Waterfall Photography

Details

Image Above by Tina Karle

THIS EVENT IS LIMITED TO EITHER TRIAL MEMBERS OR DUES PAYING MEMBERS CURRENT ON DUES.

REGISTRATION CLOSES 4PM day of our monthly meeting.

PRESENTER: TINA KARLE

CRITIQUE: WATERFALLS.
IMAGES SUBMITTED FOR ORIGINAL MAY DATE HAVE CARRIED OVER

TIPS: Some considerations when shooting waterfalls.
Are you wanting to capture silky waterfalls or stop action?
If silky, use tripod, lowest ISO, shutter speed 1 to 4 sec. unless you are photographing roaring waterfall, then .25 sec to 1 sec.
Time of Day: when the falls are shaded, or consider at sunrise or sunset when the light is soft.
Take two exposures and combine. First make your best shot. Then view to see if leaves and shrubs on the banks are blurred by a breeze. If so, then from same position, take another image with enough speed to capture the surroundings not blurred.
Then in Photoshop combine your two images.

PROGRAM: Waterfall Photography
Tina will share how she got started in waterfalls and how it led her to research, learning topography maps and then a suggestion to write a book so all can enjoy what we were finding. She will explain about the books. Also, about how it led to her to pursuing a photography degree through the mail with my own professional photographer teacher from the school. She will endeavor to chat on how waterfalls are a fun hobby and all the details involved in enjoying that hobby, along with what lenses are required etc. From there she will talk about being out on the trail and explaining waterfall photography and details about photographing waterfalls. I will lead in with how I joined the camera club and the interesting story behind that. From there I will talk about when or when NOT to share a waterfall on social media and the pitfalls or controversy it can create. I will talk about how I go about finding the waterfalls we find and mention about each state we have been to about the geology, followed up by any questions anyone might have.

CRITIQUE: Black & White, Dramatic Landscape Photography

First some may ask what is Dramatic Landscape Photography?
” Of or relating to drama. Like a drama in suddenness, emotional impact, etc. Striking; effective. Acting or performed in a flamboyant way.”

Here is an extensive and helpful article by Ross Hoddinott, UK, I ran across about capturing dramatic landscape photographs.
https://www.naturettl.com/create-drama-mood-landscape-photography/

Ross Hoddinott is among the UK’s best-known landscape and natural history photographers. He is a multi-award-winning photographer and the author of several bestselling photography titles, including The Landscape Photography Workshop (with Mark Bauer). Based in Cornwall.

Rich’s Tip: Prior to converting your colorful masterpiece to a black and white image attempt to improve your final image by trial and error. First bump up both the contrast and saturation of your color image. Second, you may want to see the varying conversion results by adding some color filters. For instance, if your image has the element of sky, try adding varying degrees of red to increase the drama.

PRESENTATION: Creating Dynamic Black and White Landscape Images

The presentation will focus on creating dynamitic black and white landscape images. Tom will discuss his thinking of shooting landscapes, how shooting in black and white differs from shooting in color. Tom will also discuss the process of converting our RAW files to black and white using lightroom and Photoshop.
