Waterfalling with Tina Karle – 1 SPOT OPEN

Details

DETAILS HAVE BEEN EMAILED WEDNESDAY EVENING TO THOSE REGISTERED. CALL ME AT (513)324-5643 IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE

ACTUAL DATE WILL LIKELY VARY AS WE ARE SEEKING AN IDEAL DAY IN JUNE. MUST BE FLEXIBLE ON ACTUAL DATE

EVENT LIMITED TO NEW TRAIL MEMBERS OR EVENT MEMBERS CURRENT ON DUES.

LIMIT 10 PERSONS. 1 SPOT OPEN AS OF JUNE 3RD. ONLY THE FIRST 10 CAN ACTUALLY GO DUE TO VERY LIMITED PARKING.

We are planning a day of waterfalling with our good member, author and state water fall expert, Tina Karle in May. As Tina has published seven books on waterfalling in Ohio, she knows her stuff. Participants will need to be flexible on the date. A couple factors we will be giving consideration to will be the proximity of rain within a few days before and reasonable weather the day of.

Our day will fall either the first, second or third weekend in May and will occur on either Saturday, May 7th, Sunday the 15th, or Saturday 21st.
Meet Tina Karle for a day of Ohio Waterfalls. Visit waterfalls northeast of Dayton, like John Bryan State Park, Massie’s Creek, and Clifton Mill, to name a few. Not to be missed. Sorry we can only do 10 people, but parking at falls is limited in most cases.

INDICATE YOUR SINCERE INTEREST ONLY, LIMITED TO 10 PERSONS, AND OFFER YOUR THOUGHTS IN COMMENT SECTION

Bring:
water boots, towel in case of rain, umbrella, snack, wide angle lens, polarizer filter and filter in case of sunshine, dry socks, change of clothes just in case.

Tina says, “Hiking with me is always an adventure. You NEVER know what you may get to see or get into! As others who have been on my hikes will attest adventures seem to always happen on one of my meetups! I DO carry a first aid kit now with me due to a recent mishap I had while out with a friend back in October. A simple rock on a misstep can sure ruin a day! I want everyone to be safe and I do my best to do so for everyone! But rocks in creeks have a mind of their own and a misjudged footing can lead to a dunking!”

We also need to ride share to save on gas!

We WILL be getting lunch while out on this meetup.
Plan for a good portion of a day.

Cincinnati Reds Fireworks

Details

Let’s photograph the Friday Night Reds Fireworks when the Reds play the Washington Nationals, from General James Taylor Park in Newport, Kentucky. Generally the fireworks start about 15 minutes after the end of the game, which can be between 2.5-3 hours after the start at 7:10 pm (so that puts the fireworks about 10:30 pm. However, you will want to get there early enough to pick out your spot to shoot from and grab a parking spot.

If you are new to photographing fireworks take a look at this site:

15 Powerful Tips for Gorgeous Fireworks Photography

If you are looking to expand your firework shooting technique try your hand at this technique – Spiky Fireworks (but it takes practice and with luck you’ll get 4-5 shots) per Fred Haaser.

Parking: you can try to get free parking in the General Taylor lot at the end beyond the riverboats. You can park on West 3rd Street just outside of the levee and walk up and over the levee to the park in a couple of minutes – this allows for a quick egress after the fireworks are over.

FEEL Free to bring guests and enjoy the fireworks!

Reds Friday Night Fireworks

Details

Bring out your tripods and let’s shoot fireworks after an upcoming Reds-Braves Game. The fireworks will start approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the game. Game time is 7:10 pm so you might want to be setup and in position by no later than 2.5 hours after the start of the game or 9:45 pm. There are park benches in General James Taylor Park, so if you get there earlier say 9 pm you might snag a place to sit else bring a folding chair.

JUNE MEETING – FRED HAASER (4th Wednesday) Critique and Presentation

Details

Registration for our monthly meetings closes at 5pm day of meeting.

{READ ONLY IF you are not current on Dues: This ONLINE presentation is for OVCC participating members only. SEE INFO AT BOTTOM.}*

CRITIQUE: City Photo Walk Detail Images.
Recently OVCC has hosted the Mt. Adams and Over-the-Rhine city photo walks. Upload up to 3 images of details you observed and photographed during these photo walks. If you did not participate in either photo walk head out between now and the critique deadline of June 18th to photograph city details, or use images from another prior city photo walk. City details are not shots of entire buildings but rather interesting doors, metal works, wood and stone filigrees, smaller shapes and patterns, small works of art, and perhaps an interesting shot of an individual going about his or her day in the city. Many times our eyes take in the large details, now show us the details you captured.

PRESENTATION: High Dynamic Range Presentation
Fred Haaser will provide a post-critique presentation on the value of High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography. He will discuss when is it appropriate to consider taking HDR photos, how is it accomplished in your camera, and then will compare and contrast four different post-processing programs you can used to create amazing HDR photos. Compared will be Lightroom, Photoshop, Photomatix, and Aurora HDR.
