Waterfalling Near Clifton Mill, Clifton Ohio

MEETUP BEGINS: 8:50 AM . WE WILL DEPART NOT LATER THAN 9 AM AND RETURN TO CINCINNATI BY 4 PM. THERE WILL BE AN OPTIONAL EXTENDED TOUR.

Waterfalling in the Fall is always fun. Let’s shoot Cedar Cliff Falls-Indian Mound Preserve near Cedarville Ohio in Peterson Park on St. Rt. 42 and the Gristmill and in Clifton Mill.

ADVISE US IF YOU WILL BE CARPOOLING FROM WEST CHESTER LOCATION IDENTIFIED BELOW OR DRIVING SEPARATLY IN COMMENT SECTION.

Then on to the historic Clifton Mill, one of the largest water-powered gristmills of the remaining forty-seven in the United States. We will shoot the falls off Water Street on the back of the mill. Historic site with a vintage mill, covered bridge, ’40s-era gas station & casual American eatery. Address: 75 Water St, Clifton, OH 45316.

We will take in lunch at the Clifton Mill Restaurant.

After lunch we will proceed west a couple of miles to Glen Helen Nature Preserve. We will take in The Cascades. This will conclude the OVCC meetup.

OPTIONAL EXTENDED ACTIVITIES: There are several other waterfalls and activities in the greater area to which those wishing to can certainly remain and enjoy.

Meet at Voice of America Center, Tylersville and Cox Roads. ENTER VOICE OF AMERICA CENTRE DRIVE OFF TYLERSVILLE RD, ONE TRAFFIC SIGNAL EAST OF COX RD. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOW THE ROAD TO YOUR LEFT AND AHEAD TO A CURVE ON YOUR RIGHT. PARK THERE, INSIDE THE CURVE, AT THE FAR POINT AWAY FROM CITY BARBEQUE AND BONEFISH GRILLE RESTAURANTS. IF YOU ARE NEARER DAYTON OR PARTS NOTTH, MEET US AT CEDAR CLIFF FALLS IN PETERSON PARK. Main parking lot directly off St. Rt. 42. 2750 US-42, Cedarville, OH 45314 at 10:00 AM. NOTE: FROM EXERIENCE DEPENDING ON YOUR GPS DEVICE, YOU MAY NEED TO DRIVE .7 MILE FURTHER NORTH.

Time table:
Arrive Voice of America Center 8:50 am.
Leave VOA Center NOT LATER THAN 9:00 am.
Arrive Cedar Cliff Falls approx. 10:00 am.
Depart 11:00 am to Clifton Mill. Arrive 11:15 am.
Meet at Clifton Mill Restaurant 12:10 pm.
After Lunch head East on Water St., turn Left onto West St. Rt. 343 to Glen Helen Nature Preserve Education Center (not open), address 1075 Rt. 343 dirt road – approx. 3.2 miles. We will walk to “The Cascades.”
Arrive Voice of America Center 4 pm.

Welcome to the early October (belated September) photo shoot and debrief – OTR AND QUEEN CITY UNDERGROUND TOUR PHOTOS!

This session will be an opportunity for members who attended the OTR Photo Walk back on May 22, 2021 or either of the two Queen City Underground Tours on August 15 or September 11 to share photos captured at the events. If you missed all these events, photos from OTR captured at any time are encouraged.

If you want to join the Queen City Underground Tour on September 11, check availability by directly contacting American Legacy Tours at (859)951-8560. The fee is $29 for the 90 minute tour starting at 10:15 am.

Between now and Tuesday, October 5th – edit your photos from these events, or head to OTR to capture some new shots.

Tuesday, October 5, by midnight, upload a maximum of 3 images.

Thursday, October 7, 6:30 to 7:30 DEBRIEF SESSION Online

Up to 3 Images to be posted by midnight Tuesday, October 7, per the following instructions:

  • Resolution 72
  • Horizontal Images 1440 pixels wide OR
  • Vertical Images 930 pixels highTo upload your photos,
  1. Rename your file:
  • #1 for first priority, #2 for second priority and #3 for third priority.
    Based on the number of participants we may need to limit the
    number of photos shown during the debrief. #3 would be dropped
    for all participants in this case.
  • Last Name, then First Initial (for example – Bader, H)
  • Title of image
  1. Give camera setting information:
  • Lens used (for example 70-200mm) AND focal length of shot (90mm)

Wednesday, October 6 and Thursday, October 7 those participating are asked to review all photos in the album, and formulate questions for the photo creator.

Early afternoon of Thursday, October 7, those registered for the event will receive an e-mail with a link to join the meeting from 6:30 – 7:30.

The meeting will be an open-mic group discussion about the photos captured with the goal of encouraging and helping improve our work.

This is our newest and 5th historic photo walk downtown. We will start at Fountain Square, Cincinnati’s main public space since 1871. Enlarged and remodeled in 2005 it is home to concerts, restaurants, offices and just plain relaxation. Our most notable landmark, Tyler Davidson Fountain, dedicated also in 1871. Just down the street is Carew Tower, built 1930 and adjoining and ornate Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, combining to make one to our nation’s finest French Art Deco ensembles.

Then we will see the former Terrace Plaza Hotel, an icon of American Modernism and the Cincinnatian Hotel, our top surviving French Second Empire Building from 1882.

Race Street historic district and it’s 24 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
One of downtown’s most impressive corners.
City’s Oldest Park was donated in 1817
A rare late Gothic Building from 1923
Statute of William Henry Harrison on horseback.

City Hall designed by Samuel Hannaford in Romanesque Revival Style, 1893
