Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day at USAF Air Force Museum
Yes, the OVCC just visited the Wright Patt Air Force museum on Veterans Day Nov. 11, however, the museum is offering the Plane Talks again on Pearl Harbor Day. Rather than make this a club visit I am mostly just announcing the event here to get the word out for those who might want to attend. I plan to attend and video record more of the plane talks by those who flew or maintained them. The chance to have a one-on-one conversation with the greatest generation is a truly rare and valuable opportunity, and one that won’t be here much longer.
There is no cost at the museum. You must wear a mask.
Plane Talks will occur a few times a year and allow visitors the opportunity to interact with various subject matter experts. The experts at these talks may include veterans, active duty, former pilots, crew members, engineers, navigators, and more. These experts will be stationed in the galleries near the aircraft or exhibit that relates to their expertise. These Plane Talks programs often occur on the anniversary of a significant Air Force or military event.
Parking is also free. If you haven’t been to the museum in years I have to mention that it is top-shelf, there is none better for aircraft.
The museum is huge, staying separated is not an issue.

The Tri-State Warbird Museum was formed in 2003 with a commitment to preserve the aircraft of World War II, educate visitors on America’s role in WWII, and to honor the veterans who fought and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Originally constructed as a 12,000 sq/ft hangar and 5,000 sq/ft museum display space at the Clermont County Airport, the Tri-State Warbird Museum was completed and opened to the public in 2004. Come out and photograph these rare aircraft with us.

Other – we will plan to meetup at 3:45 pm outside and start our tour at 4 pm, so be sure to give yourself time to find the location if you’ve never been there before. TINA GUITEREZ BIO: Social justice, Arts, underwater and portrait photographer based in Cincinnati, Ohio. portraits and headshots of musicians and arts professionals. Photoactivist. I regularly photograph members of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Linton Series, Concert Nova and faculty and students at CCM. I have also had numerous photographs featured on the cover of Movers and Makers Magazine as well as in one Grammy award winning CD and one Grammy nominated CD.
Tina is Currently an adjunct professor at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Tina’s practice is grounded in her study of art, movement and music. She is a longtime student of Developmental Movement and very deliberately composes the human figure and its activity. Tina is also a musician. She performs on the lute and Renaissance flute, and directs the early music chamber group, The Shakespeare Band. Her cultural connection to the Renaissance/Baroque period extends to The Visual world as well as music, especially sculpture. Depicting classical balance and beauty in the human form is a hallmark of Tina’s work. When not composing scenes in the studio or on-site, Tina is a freelance photographer with a broad clientele including The Cincinnati Symphony, Linton Chamber Music, Movers and Makers Magazine, Queen City Chamber Opera, Concert Nova, MY Cincinnati, UC-College Conservatory of Music, and Procter and Gamble. She has photographed many Grammy award winning musicians. Tina’s work has been widely exhibited, at FotoFocus 2018, 2019, and 2020 at The Cincinnati Shakespeare Gallery. she regularly exhibits at Washington Park Art Gallery, Kennedy Heights arts Center, The Art Academy, Xavier University and other spaces.

Lisa Langell, Phoenix Arizona, is a full-time, award-winning photographer whose work has appeared in numerous prestigious publications including the cover of Outdoor Photographer magazine, plus numerous images in Arizona Highways, Ranger Rick, art galleries and more. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the North American Nature Photography Association. She is also a proud ambassador for Tamron, FotoPro, and H&Y filters.
Her passion for photography started in childhood–when bird watching ignited her lifelong love of nature and the camera. In 2010, she turned her passion for photography into a business—and in 2015 she successfully transitioned to photography full-time and left the corporate and consulting world behind. The journey with photography has been Lisa’s favorite–she loves combining her diverse background and skills into her photographic art and instruction. Bringing joy to others brings joy to her! She thrives on creating innovative learning experiences and pushing photographic boundaries. She equally enjoys enriching, stimulating, and expanding fellow photographers’ minds emotionally, creatively, and intellectually.
Photographing Abstracts: The Techniques Behind the Best Images.
Excellent Abstract photography does not happen by chance. It is rarely the accidental blurred shot that works as an elite abstract image. It is through careful photography and technique where the best images are created. So–expand your creativity! A whole new world of photography, creativity, and fun opens when you break the boundaries of traditional imagery and explore photographing abstracts! I will teach you the techniques behind creating the best images. Abstract photography is all about taking the everyday objects and transforming them into something creative and mostly unrecognizable in comparison to their original form. Through instruction, videos, audience-interaction and inspiration from your instructor and fellow participants, you will learn:
•How to apply basic compositional guidelines while using your creativity and vision to create abstract images
•How to use intentional camera motion (ICM) and motion blur•Patterning and its application to abstract photography
•How contrast, shadows, color theory, textures, edges, and more can help your design images that are artistic, ethereal, and fun
•How to present your abstract images for impactful, stunning wall art and more!
This session is always full of laughs, freedom, and creativity. It is a great class for any level of photographer with any camera–even a mobile phone.

Memphis Belle: Her Final Mission, an one-hour documentary from our regional Public Media Connect (Dayton’s WPDT and Cincinnati’s WCET-TV), includes video from the 13-year restoration of the World War II Boeing B-17F bomber and unused film from the 1944 documentary, Memphis Belle: A Story Of A Flying Fortress.
Producer Richard Wonderling had access to 21-1/2 hours of film — 10 hours of the restoration shot by the Air Force Museum staff, and 11-1/2 hours from the 1944 film.
Sharon Woods is the oldest park in the Great Parks of Hamilton County system. It’s 730 acres, and is made up of a 2.6 mile shared trail that follows the shore line of the parks biggest lake. There is also a .7 mile gorge trail and a 1.0 mile fitness trail. There is a large playground, water vehicles for rent, fishing and a golf course. Most interesting to photographers is the beautiful trees that create wonderful fall colors in late October and early November. The best place to take photographs is from the 2.6 mile (easy) trail around the lake. There are many outstanding vantage points to shoot from. Entrance fee with pass is free, otherwise a single visit is $5.00 for Hamilton County residents and $8.00 for non-residents. An annual sticker is $10 for residents and $16 for non-residents.

DAVID W SHAW BIO: David is a Fairbanks, Alaska based professional photographer, writer, and photo educator. His images and writing have appeared thousands of times in publications across the world. He has written articles on the art of photography for magazines like Shutterbug, Professional Photographer, Amateur Photographer, Photo Technique, Bokeh, and others. He is also an instructor at the Digital Photography School and ExpertPhotography.
Dave’s writings on science and natural history have appeared in Sierra, Defenders, Alaska, Birds and Blooms, Birdwatching, UnDark, Scientific American, Ensia, and many others. He has a both undergraduate and masters degrees in wildlife biology and is an expert naturalist with a deep love for all wild things (but particularly birds).
Dave is a 20 year resident of Alaska and has spent most of those decades exploring the state’s many wild corners with his camera, and leading others on wilderness trips, photography expeditions, birding, and natural history tours. Internationally, he has traveled to dozens of countries on (almost) every continent, and loves sharing those places with others. He has guided on expedition ships in Antarctica and South America, birding and photo trips in South and Central America, and the list goes on.

However, he informed us that the park will be closing at 5 pm starting Oct. 4th so I have moved the start time up 2 hours to 2 pm, which will provide 3 hours to see & photograph the 335 acres. You could arrive after 2 pm if your schedule doesn’t fit.
If you agree to give your photos to the Park they will waive your $8 entry fee. You will maintain your copyright and the park will provide a Photo Credit to you for any photos they may use. If you use your photo for commercial sales you will still be required to buy a Commercial Photographer Pass for $75.
The Ancient Sculpture museum is still closed to the public but as docent Jerry can get us in with masks and no-contact of doors, etc.
Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park & Museum is a 335 acre sculpture park and outdoor museum combining the lure of nature with the dynamic presence of monumental art. Pyramid Hill’s rolling hills, meadows, lakes, gardens and miles of hiking trails provides the perfect backdrop to Experience Art In Nature in every season. In addition to the 80+ monumental outdoor sculptures, the grounds also feature a pioneer house dating to the 1820’s with an unusual arched ceiling.
Ancient Sculpture Museum – allows you to travel back in time and visit the Roman, Greek, Etruscan and Egyptian Empires. The Ancient Sculpture Museum houses over 60 pieces of sculpture where each piece is over a thousand years old.

RAPTOR INC. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of local birds of prey via rehabilitation, education and research.
Visit the Raptor, Inc. complex, where their educational birds will be displayed for your photographic pleasure. Birds are perched and hand held by the handlers. Photographers are as close as 10-15 feet from the birds and have lots of time to shoot. Tripods and telephoto lenses of 200-400mm are recommended, however, not necessary. NO FLASH.
You need not me be a member to attend and you may bring a guest, but all attendees, including non photographer guests, must pay the fee because of space limitations and Raptor, Inc. policy. All monies are for the benefit of Raptor, Inc. to help them continue their great efforts.
