WHAT: Adobe has just released one of the best upgrades in years for Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw (ACR). I have already used the new masking feature once and it was fantastic making Lightroom all the more powerful.

IMPORTANT. If we get 10 or more signups the workshop will proceed and you will then be asked to mail a $10 check mailed to Rich Sears, who will handle Bert’s workshop fee. You do NOT need to be a paid member of OVCC for this event.

WHO IS THIS FOR? This workshop is for anyone who uses Lightroom Classic and/or Adobe Camera Raw who wants to take advantage of the latest masking techniques.

WILL THIS WORKSHOP BE RECORDED? Yes, the workshop will be recorded, and the recording will be available for you to review whenever you like.

WHY ATTEND? Bert will explain what masking is and how to best use this very important added technique. You will learn everything you need to know about the latest version of Masking in Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw.

WHAT’S INCLUDED? The online interactive session workshop will be via Zoom. Those who have paid will be sent a link before the session (assuming we get 10+ signups). You will be able to ask questions and benefit from other attendee questions. In addition, you will be provided with the online workshop slides in PDF form and a link to an online video copy of the workshop that you can view as often as you like.

NOVEMBER MEETING: HANK ERDMANN: Your Artistic Intent / Experiencing vs Seeing

Details

Image is by Hank Erdmann

To Register: https://www.meetup.com/Ohio-Valley-Camera-Club/

REGISTRATION CLOSES 5pm day of our monthly meeting. LINK to view will be emailed after 5 PM day of meeting.

PRESENTOR: HANK ERDMANN. Board of Directors, NANPA, Professional since 1980. Natural History and Travel Photography. https://hankphoto.photoshelter.com/

CRITIQUE: YOUR ARTISTIC INTENT. Meaning whatever your artistic skill level is, from beginner to professional, everyone can learn. Select a few of your favorite images, no matter what category – nature, architecture, people etc. Develop an image in mind with some artistic qualities and go for it. Maybe separate your background from your subject by blurring the background, blurring the focus, lessening the color saturation, luminosity, vibrance or texture. OR find an image whose subject is simple, and the background not busy – even crop in to lessen the distraction of the background.

PRESENTATION:

Experiencing nature versus just seeing nature is what brings us as human beings to truly cherish it. By paying attention to our five human senses; vision, hearing, touch, smell and taste and to our six psychological/artistic senses; feeling, awareness, contrast, mystery, beauty, and simplicity, our photographs can start to match our awe and love for the natural world and share those feelings with those who view our images.

At some point in the progression of becoming an artist, and more specifically a photographer, we understand that seeing and documenting subject matter is not enough no matter technically proficient one is. At some point we realize we need more than just technical skill to make images that offer the viewer feeling and inspiration.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING IMAGES: Submit up to three images in JPEG FORMAT TO: https://ovcc.smugmug.com/upload/Hmcnv6/12345

FINE PRINT: We can only guarantee critiquing your first image IF You Rename Your File Accordingly: it includes FIRST, your priority number 1, 2 or 3. Then your last name, first initial and Title of your image. NAME is required only for administrative Purposes. For Example: “1 Jones D Shadows” Deadline for submitting images will be 10:00 PM of the Friday prior to our meeting.

Image Sizing: reduce all images to Resolution of 72, and, for horizontal images 1440 pixels wide. For vertical images 930 pixels high. • OFF TOPIC IMAGES will be deleted at the request of several members

BIO: Hank Erdmann has been a professional photographer since 1980. Hank specializes in natural history and travel photography in North America. His images have been published in numerous calendars, magazines, books, and advertising.

Hank teaches photography workshops and seminars and leads photo tours for various entities. Workshop information is available by emailing Hank at [email protected].

Hank has also been recently elected to the board of directors of NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association).

Hank Erdmann resides in Will County Illinois. He has photographed throughout North America, making the Midwest his primary geographic area of interest. A love of history, especially the maritime history of the great Lakes, kindles a special interest in the ports, shorelines, islands, and natural areas of Lakes Michigan and superior and their surrounding environs.

“My photographs are an extension of excitement and joy at seeing a fleeting moment when nature takes light and through color, form, line and texture creates an image that leaves an impression in my mind. Occasionally, I am fortunate to record such images on file. Man’s involvement with nature sometimes can cause striking images as well. I photograph scenes that show man’s enjoyment of nature, his striking images as well, his sharing and use of it, has abuse of it, and nature’s effects on manmade objects. I try to capture a piece of reality, a moment in the history of a subject.

Sharon Woods Fall Colors Photo Shoot – PUSHED OUT 2 WEEKS

Details

UPDATE: EVENT PUSHED OUT TWO WEEKS DUE TO DELAY IN FALL COLORS. STAY TUNED AS WE MAY EVEN MOVE BACK OUR DATE FURTHER TO SUNDAY NOV. 7TH DEPENDING UPON LIGHTING CONDITIONS.

Southern Ohio was expected to be at peak Fall colors the weekend of October 23. However foresters say due to the warm weather the first half of October, the date for peak colors will now likely fall between October 30th and into next week, and now apparently further.

There is a $5 day fee to enter Sharon Woods to park inside unless you park nearby and walk to the lake (the park system can use your donation). We will meet by the boat house but then quickly more to the locations we feel are best for the lighting.

In the event of rain the event will move to Sunday.

Don’t want to shoot at Sharon Woods? Find your own best location (but try to find water to provide reflections for double the color). You might also consider driving over to the Heritage Village and capturing colors with the historic buildings afterwards.

Be sure to bring a tripod to get the sharpest possible images.

For Post-Processing take advantage of Blake Rudis’ free video on how to get the most out of your Fall color images at this free video on YouTube.
