PRESENTATION: ART OF THE PROJECT
Let’s say you’re pretty good photographer and want to move up a notch. One way to help you to that is to start a photography project.

A photography project is an organized body of material, shot over a period from days to decades, consistent in quality, fiidelity to the purpose, and in certain aspects of style.

Working on a project has a number of benefits for you, the photographer. 1. It keeps your energy up 2. It encourages you to develop greater technical and artistic skills 3. It requires you to sort the sheep from the goats — you can only have a limited number in your project, but you may have shot thousands of images that might qualify. This forces you to think about your work in a new way and with greater objectivity than you may have had before.

Eric will help you choose a subject, set goals, and give you some tips on organizing material. We’ll look at three of his own projects. With luck, yiou’ll leave with something new to help you grow.

In an effort to share what I have discovered along the way I am now writing a book based primarily on the Mastering Landscape Photography class but also including elements from the Fine Arts… class. FEBRUARY MEETING: Critique Intimate Nature / Program: Intimate Nature

Details

NEW: REGISTRATION FOR OUR MONTHLY MEETINGS GOING FORWARD CLOSES 5 PM Day Of Meeting. Necessary to get webinar link out to folks attending.

CRITIQUE: INTIMATE NATURE
The term “intimate landscape” can be attributed to American photographer Eliot Porter. An intimate landscape puts a frame around a small part of the world around us and draws our attention to something we might not otherwise notice. It’s about the smaller details vs. the big scenic landscape. It might focus on shapes, lines, colors, textures or patterns. It can tell a part of the story. It can be crafted to convey a particular mood, emotion or observation with a degree of intimacy, understanding or closeness.
One reason for pursuing the intimate landscape is that you’ll create images that are uniquely your own. It allows your vision to shine through in ways that photographing grand scenic landscapes cannot. Intimate landscapes can include nature scenes, abstract photographs, portraits of flowers, plants or trees, or small scenes from buildings and other structures. Join us as we learn to explore, observe, distill and craft intimate photographs. An entire universe of possibilities opens up when a photographer learns to see the smaller scenes.

BIO:
Susan Milinkovich began photographing with her father when she got her first Brownie camera in elementary school. Her dad gave her the gift of “seeing” a photograph and both parents gave her a love of nature and an appreciation for the beauty to be found in our everyday world. While Susan enjoys capturing the larger landscapes, it is the intimate details of a landscape, structure or flower that draws her attention. Susan has participated in exhibits at Pop Revolution, Middletown Art Center, the Cincinnati Nature Center and Mohawk Gallery as part of Cincinnati’s PhotoFocus. Susan does photowalks for the MetroParks of Butler County, and teaches classes and workshops on composition, light, macro and close-up photography, abstract photography, color theory, and focus stacking.
