Total Lunar Eclipse November 8 at 5:59 am

Details

As this will be in a public location this event is open to all paid and non-paid members

What: Total Lunar Eclipse

Where: General James Taylor Park, Covington, KY (up on the platform)

When: November 8 (will arrive at 5 am and leave at sunrise); don’t forget that DST ends Nov. 6th so reset your clocks back one hour then.

Parking: lot in the park, free

Weather Permitting: need clear skies for this, so check the weather before heading down; current forecast is for no rain, maybe 20% cloud cover, temperature mid-40s.

Description: join me downtown to photograph the total lunar eclipse. The graphic above, made using The Photographer’s Ephemeris (TPE) shows that the maximum eclipse will occur at 5:59 am at about 285 degrees on the compass and 6 degrees off the horizontal. My goal will be to capture the eclipse just above the Roebling Bridge cables on the far side between the shoreline and the first pillar, and just to the right of the Bengal’s stadium. Click on the map image in the Photos section below. Bring coffee and some donuts for company.

Photo Gear: bring a sturdy tripod and camera release cable to reduce vibrations (or use your camera’s timer). I’d recommend a lens with an focal length range of 24-70mm to capture the wider shot, and 70-200mm or more to zoom in on the moon.

Camera Settings: exposure 1 sec or less, f8, ISO 100-800, bracket the exposures, try to keep both the moon and other subjects in focus
