OVCC Annual Dues Policy: Our club has annual dues to cover club expenses and to be shared equally by all Participating (Event) members. For our new year we will be paying rental fees for our new central location in Blue Ash. Also we are incurring speaker fees to hear from national speakers. Our new dues are $30 or $55 for couples. Our Non-Participating Members need not pay our dues, and do not partake of our Events. – See Below for available activities. Dues may increase over time as we implement initiatives to improve our service to our members. Our fiscal year runs from July 1 through the following June 30. RENEWAL FEES ARE DUE BY JULY 31.

Our NONPARTICIPATING MEMBERS of Meetup or Facebook can make use of our discussion panels, review over 50,000 images, and other materials including: our postings on our Meetup and Facebook pages. Frequently our club will open training events to all members or even the public.

NEW MEETUP MEMBERS are placed on a FREE TRIAL basis for six months and so notified. The expiration date for new members may be found by navigating to MEMBERS, search for your name. Under their name will be listed the expiration of their trial period.

Photo Tour of Great American Ball Park and Reds Hall of Fame

Details

The guided photographic tour begins in Great American Ball Park where you will have the opportunity to shoot (among other things) the press box, Fan Zone, Diamond Club, and the dugouts. After 90 minutes in the stadium the group will enter the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum for a 60 minute visit.

Cost of the tour is $15 per person, Seniors $13. EXACT CASH payable at the event.

Park either at Great American Ball Park itself or at the Banks Garages next to the stadium. (There will be a charge for parking in these locations.)

CRITIQUE: BOKEH
Bokeh photography creates a blur in the out-of-focus area of an image. This technique can produce appealing, professional looking images. It can help your subject stand out to make the emphasis of your photography stand out. You may deliberately use a shallow focus technique to create images with prominent out-of-focus regions, accentuating their lens’s bokeh. It is often most visible around small background highlights, such as specular reflections and light sources, which is why it is often associated with such areas.[6] However, bokeh is not limited to highlights; blur occurs in all regions of an image which are outside the depth of field. Bokeh can also be produced during post-production.

Have you ever gotten stuck in your creativity? Not sure what to photograph or how to photograph a subject? Photographers or any creative sometimes, are extremely hard on themselves if they fail to produce work they think is worthy or even good.

Pam will review tips and techniques to make photography fun…and creative! Take the time to learn something new and look at things differently!

BIO: PAMELA DECAMP
Pam Decamp is an award-winning fine art photographer who travel the United States and abroad. Decamp lives in southern Ohio; she captures images off the beaten path and give them special attention in post-processing. Images of leaf covered roads, mountain vistas, and whimsically nostalgic scenes inspire her viewer to experience the beauty of our nation. Pam holds a Bachelors Degree from Xavier University (Cincinnati, Ohio) in Film and Photography.

The Heart of the Photograph – Inspiring Virtual Lecture with David DuChemin

Details

David duChemin is a world & humanitarian assignment photographer, best-selling author, and international workshop leader whose adventurous life fuels his fire to create and share. Based in Victoria, Canada, when he’s home, David leads a nomadic life chasing compelling images on all 7 continents. With over 35 years experience making photographs, his calling is to help photographers make photographs that are more than just sharp and well-exposed. David teaches how to make photographs that light a spark in people, that communicate clearly, that captivate imaginations and grab the attention and hearts of the people who will see them.

David’s travel has taken him through winters in Russia and Mongolia, a summer on the Amazon, spending time among nomads in the Indian Himalayan and remote Northern Kenya. He’s done assignment work in Ecuador, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Ethiopia, Malawi, DRC, Rwanda, Uganda, Bangladesh, among others, and pursued personal work in places like Iceland, Antarctica, Tunisia, Cuba, Vietnam, Kenya, and Italy.

This webinar will discuss techniques and ways of thinking about the creation of images designed to engage human imagination and emotion, including questions of vision and intent, the use of space and time, the creation of depth, and the use of point of view. David will also discuss mood and mystery, storytelling, and what this all means for our choices of moments as well as more practical considerations, like the more creative use of exposure tools, composition, and more. This will be a compelling lecture with (and about) heart that your club will remember for a long time.

Walking Tour: Riverfront: Ohio and Kentucky

Details

Walk through Cincinnati’s Riverfront Parks, past the Serpentine Wall, cross over into Newport. We will climb the stairs to the river levee, view downtown Cincinnati and continue walking along the River. We will cross over the Licking River, cross back into Cincinnati on the historic Roebling Suspension Bridge to our starting point. This is an easy 2 ½ mile walk.

We are planning a day of waterfalling with our good member, author and state water fall expert, Tina Karle in May. As Tina has published seven books on waterfalling in Ohio, she knows her stuff. Participants will need to be flexible on the date. A couple factors we will be giving consideration to will be the proximity of rain within a few days before and reasonable weather the day of.

Our day will fall either the first, second or third weekend in May and will occur on either Saturday, May 7th, Sunday the 15th, or Saturday 21st.
Meet Tina Karle for a day of Ohio Waterfalls. Visit waterfalls northeast of Dayton, like John Bryan State Park, Massie’s Creek, and Clifton Mill, to name a few. Not to be missed. Sorry we can only do 10 people, but parking at falls is limited in most cases.

water boots, towel in case of rain, umbrella, snack, wide angle lens, polarizer filter and filter in case of sunshine, dry socks, change of clothes just in case.

Tina says, “Hiking with me is always an adventure. You NEVER know what you may get to see or get into! As others who have been on my hikes will attest adventures seem to always happen on one of my meetups! I DO carry a first aid kit now with me due to a recent mishap I had while out with a friend back in October. A simple rock on a misstep can sure ruin a day! I want everyone to be safe and I do my best to do so for everyone! But rocks in creeks have a mind of their own and a misjudged footing can lead to a dunking!”

We also need to ride share to save on gas!

We WILL be getting lunch while out on this meetup.

Cincinnati Reds Fireworks

Details

Let’s photograph the Friday Night Reds Fireworks when the Reds play the Washington Nationals, from General James Taylor Park in Newport, Kentucky. Generally the fireworks start about 15 minutes after the end of the game, which can be between 2.5-3 hours after the start at 7:10 pm (so that puts the fireworks about 10:30 pm. However, you will want to get there early enough to pick out your spot to shoot from and grab a parking spot.

Parking: you can try to get free parking in the General Taylor lot at the end beyond the riverboats. You can park on West 3rd Street just outside of the levee and walk up and over the levee to the park in a couple of minutes – this allows for a quick egress after the fireworks are over.
