SHOOT AND DEBRIEF MEETING – July 25 , 6:30 – 7:30 PM ONLINE

Theme: *****DECAY***** Can be almost anything: A buildings’ interior or exterior , a zoomed in shoot of a particular piece of a larger object or flowers , trees, trains , planes and automobiles, etc… in any stage of decay , disrepair or ruin.

The meeting will be an open-mic group discussion about the photos captured with the goal of encouraging and helping improve our work.

RESIZE YOUR PHOTOS in order to fill the screen during the Zoom session else your image may appear small. If using Lightroom use Export / Imaging Sizing / Resize to Fitand enter 2800 pixels for landscape images or 1800 pixels for portrait images. Enter a resolution of 72 pixels per inch to get the recommended number of pixels.

• Rename your image files: first and last name, #1 for first priority, #2 for second priority and #3 for third priority and Image Title, as in this example John Smith 1 Downtown Cincinnati.jpg

The 2024 Butterfly Show is inspired by the story of the caterpillars and butterflies taken to the International Space Station in 2009, where they successfully adapted to a zero-gravity environment and became known as “astro-pillars” and “butter-nauts”. We have created a galactic landscape of blossoming plants and beautiful butterflies for you to enjoy. PRIVATE TOUR: Moment in Time: A Legacy of Photographs / Works from the Bank of America Collection

PAYMENT OF $12 IS DUE BY TUESDAY JULY 16TH.

Moment in Time features more than 100 photographs dating from the invention of the medium in the 1830s through the mid-20th century. The exhibition includes compelling masterworks by William Henry Fox Talbot, Julia Margaret Cameron, Timothy O’Sullivan, Alfred Stieglitz, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, and Walker Evans, among others. All explored the breadth and depth of the camera’s ability to capture a moment in time.

Their interests ranged from perfecting photography’s technical capabilities to documenting the formal beauty of nature to exposing the social realities of America. All, however, explored the breadth and depth of the camera’s ability to capture a moment in time.
Reservations are required. Admission is free for Taft members, guests of members with guest pass, military, and youth (17 and under); $12 for adults. Includes admission to special exhibitions and the museum’s collection galleries.

Parking
The Taft offers limited free on-site parking for guests visiting the museum, the Museum Shop, and the Lindner Family Café during regular museum hours in the Taft’s on-site garage. The front gates and garage open 15 minutes before opening.
Please Note: cars left in the museum garage after hours will be towed.

FOR A FUN EXPERIENCE PHOTOGRAPHING A SMALL TOWN FESTIVAL consider coming out to Montgomery’s Bastille Day, which is a sister-city celebration with a city named Neuilly-Plaisance, a suburb of Paris, France. Montgomery named the event Bastille Day after their July 14 independence day celebration. Montgomery Road will be closed in downtown Montgomery for the festival.

ENTERTAINMENT – Besides 14 food vendors (including Graeter’s) there will be a North Stage and a South Stage with live music playing, with a total of 9 live acts. Headlining will be The Mistics, and Cassette Junkies from 8-11 pm.

### Are July 4th and Bastille Day Linked?

On October 17, 1781, at the Battle of Yorktown, the French Admiral de Grasse applied a successful naval blockade, denying aid and reinforcements to the surrounded forces of British General Cornwallis. The ensuing victory by Colonial forces under General George Washington, his subordinate General Lafayette, among others, and French forces under General Rochambeau, led to later victories in the war and eventually the signing of the 1783 Treaty of Paris, whereby Great Britain recognized the Colonies as a “free and independent nation.” Without the aid of France, it is unlikely that either America or France would have Independence and Bastille Days to celebrate. With both of these historical events celebrated in our community within a timeframe of two weeks, the link between the two nations is noteworthy.

PRESENTATION: THE GREAT PLAINS: A VANISHING ECO-SYSTEM
The Great Plains is the world’s most endangered and least protected ecosystem. Once covering approximately 1/3 of North America, over 90% of the original prairies and grasslands have been lost to agriculture. The change from a balanced, diverse ecosystem to one made up of monocultures has had a significant role in global climate change.

Travel with Tom through his photographs and storytelling to hear about the importance of this great region.

Conserving the remaining prairies and grassland while restoring others can store massive amounts of carbon, help mitigate the worst effects of climate change, and help restore the legacy of the American West.

BIO:
Tom is an award-winning landscape and nature photographer with over 40 years of experience. His work has been published in Magazines such as “B&W Photography” , and Ohio Magazine, and has published books on “The Ohio Landscape”, “The Great Plains”, and “A Decade in the Mountians”.
You can look for an article on one of his wildlife adventures in the upcoming issue of “Capture Magazine”
He will also be releasing his second issue of his Zine – “The Great Plains – A Sea Of Grass”
