Clifton Gaslight District Photo Walk

Details

What: a guided photo walk of the Clifton gaslight district and including Burnet Woods Park (I will talk about some of the more significant buildings along the way). This photo walk is reserved for dues paying members and trial members only. Contact Rich Sears at [email protected] if you want to become a member.

Description: At night, the tree-lined lanes of historic Clifton are lit by the old gas lamps that give the area its name. Above-shop apartments, lovely old brick homes, and 19th century mansions all house a vibrant community that is racially, socioeconomically, and politically diverse. Ludlow Avenue is the historic downtown Clifton village and offers a varied range of fun independent shops, a pharmacy, a hardware store, eateries galore, and an independent movie theater. The first half of the walk surveys a few of the calm gas-lit streets and beautiful old homes. A stop by one of the early Graeters ice cream stores may be in order. Later we will head into Burnet Woods Park for a splash of green, fresh air, and shade in the middle of the city. Afterwards an optional lunch will be at Skyline Chili on the way back to our cars.

Meetup Location: Intersection of Glenmary and Clifton Avenues, leaving at 10 am Sharp!

Difficulty: Easy, 2.5 miles (a nice walking map will be available, for now see the photo below)

Parking: free parking on Glenmary Ave, Loraine Ave, or Brookline Ave.

Rain Date: in the event of rain the walk will be moved back one day to Sunday, May 28th
